West Virginia Department of Edcuation recently revised the School Calendar Policy 3234, to include equivalent instructional time. Equivalent Instructional Time is defined as"minutes added to the minumum instructional day which ensures that over the course of the instructional term, students will receive instruction for the amount of time equivalent to 180 separate instructions day."
I am excited to announce, that our district has taken advantage of this opportunity and each school has adjusted their schedule to include 30 additional minutes per day of Instructional Time, beyond the state required minimum. Equivalent Instructional Time may be used to recover time lost time due to late arrivals, early dismissals and closures. The addition of this time will allow our distirct to avoid rescheduling or adding instructional days to make-up for five (5) Instructional Days missed due to school closures for inclement weather or other emergencies.
