Mr. Cochran has been appointed by the West Virginia Department of Education to serve as Superintendent of Nicholas County Schools, following the state’s recent intervention in that district. This new role allows him to return to his hometown and be closer to his family and aging father.
“This was not an easy decision,” said Cochran. “Doddridge County has been an incredible place to serve. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together and grateful for the relationships, progress, and professionalism I’ve experienced here. I leave knowing the district will continue to thrive under strong leadership.”
During a special meeting of the Doddridge County Board of Education held on May 27, 2025, the board officially accepted Mr. Cochran’s resignation and took time to express appreciation for his service. As part of the meeting, the board completed Mr. Cochran’s annual superintendent evaluation and voted unanimously to award him an Exceeds Standards goal rating for the 2024–2025 school year.
To ensure a smooth transition, the board also voted to appoint Dr. Adam Cheeseman as Interim Superintendent, effective May 28 through June 30, 2025. In recognition of Dr. Cheeseman’s past success and long-standing service to Doddridge County Schools, the board further approved a four-year contract for him to resume the role of superintendent through June 30, 2029.
Dr. Cheeseman previously served as superintendent from 2016 to 2024 and is well-acquainted with the district’s vision, goals, and staff.
“It’s an honor to return to Doddridge County and once again serve this exceptional school system,” said Cheeseman. “Our mission, United to Make a Difference, has always guided my work, and I look forward to continuing that commitment alongside our dedicated staff, families, and community. I sincerely thank the Board of Education for their confidence in my leadership. Together, we will build on the progress already made and focus on what matters most, our students.”
Board President Chad Evans praised both leaders and expressed confidence in the transition: “We are grateful for Mr. Cochran’s leadership and wish him the very best as he returns home to serve Nicholas County. The board moved quickly and thoughtfully to maintain continuity in our schools, and we are pleased to welcome Dr. Cheeseman back. His proven leadership and deep understanding of our district will support a stable and successful future for Doddridge County Schools.”
The Doddridge County Board of Education remains committed to ensuring strong, consistent leadership and continued success for students, staff, and the entire school community.
