Dr. Cheeseman Checks In: United to Lead – Day #2

Day two of the Principal’s Leadership Academy continued to build momentum as district leaders worked to align goals and strategies that drive student success across every grade level.

The day began with Susie Garrison from the Office of Academic Support, who shared impactful ELA Best Practices to strengthen literacy instruction districtwide. Instructional Specialists Sam Baily and Mallory James followed with a comprehensive data overview and analysis. While we continue to see GSA scores in Math and ELA that are exceptional—such as the 3rd and 4th grade ELA results exceeding state percentages—we are reminded that there is always room for improvement and growth. These sessions allow us to celebrate successes while strategically focusing on areas that will push student achievement even further.

To close the day, Michelle Robey, Human Resource Manager/Assistant Superintendent, and Katrina White, Director of Student Support, presented individualized instructional plans to each building-level administrator. These tailored plans provide every school with a focused roadmap to meet the specific needs of their students and sustain continued progress.

Through collaboration, data-driven planning, and the dedication of our entire team, we are putting our Mission in Motion and staying #UnitedToMakeADifference for every Bulldog, every day. 💛💚

Dr. Cheeseman Checks In: United to Lead – Day 1

This week’s Principal’s Leadership Academy is more than just a meeting—it’s the start of a movement. Under Dr. Cheeseman’s leadership, school and district leaders united around the theme United to Lead, with one clear goal: to align our vision, ignite momentum, and lay the groundwork for a year of intentional impact.

Day 1 featured a dynamic kickoff from Jill Steele, insightful legislative updates from Attorney Jason Long, and an inspiring presentation by Joe Boczek of GameChanger. Leaders from Holistic Child, Finance, Personnel, Technology, CTE/Attendance, Special Education, and other key departments shared focused insights to ensure our entire system is moving forward together—with clarity and purpose.

Together, we’re putting our Mission in Motion—strengthening leadership, building alignment, and staying #UnitedToMakeADifference for every Bulldog, every day. 💛💚

🌟 Professional Development Spotlight! 🌟

Today, the Doddridge County Schools Holistic Child Department hosted another impactful professional development session—this time at Doddridge County High School!

The session, titled “Stress Management and Self-Care,” was led by Taylor Daugherty, a Doddridge County graduate who now works with Aetna. We’re proud to see one of our own giving back to the community and are grateful for the valuable insights and strategies Ms. Daugherty shared.

We also welcomed David Lee from ParentGuidance.org, who wrapped up the session by introducing their Parent Coaching tool. This free and confidential service offers one-on-one support with a cognitive coach to help parents, guardians, and staff manage stress, implement healthy interventions, and prioritize self-care.

Bulldogs in the Building – Staff Edition

At a recent Board of Education meeting, we celebrated three staff members who went above and beyond this school year, demonstrating what it truly means to be present with purpose.

With the exception of professional development days, these Bulldogs were in the building every single day of the 2024–2025 school year:

Robert Burnside – DCHS Teacher
William Hays – DCMS Teacher
David Glasure – Bus Operator

Their dedication is a powerful example of our Mission in Motion and a reminder that showing up, consistently and wholeheartedly, is one of the most impactful ways we stay United to Make A Difference.

Today, the Doddridge County Schools Holistic Child Department hosted a powerful professional development session at the Doddridge County Early Learning Academy!

The training, titled “Behavior Blueprint: Crafting Strategies for Supporting Your Classroom,” was led by our very own Board Certified Behavior Analyst, Ben Thomas.

We were proud to have representatives from all four of our schools in attendance, demonstrating their commitment to student success and a strong start to the 2025–26 school year.

It's inspiring to see our educators already hard at work this summer—learning, growing, and getting ready to make a difference.

Preston Bennett led the Pledge of Allegiance at this week’s Doddridge County Board of Education meeting—an outstanding example of our Mission in Motion.

A DCHS junior, Preston serves as Class Treasurer, shines with the Bel Canto Bulldogs Show Choir, and is a proud member of the National Honor Society. He’s been performing with the Mountaineer Creative Arts Council since 2nd grade and is now in his third year as a Junior Board Member. Outside the classroom, he remains rooted in faith and community through West Union Baptist Church.

We’re proud of the leadership, talent, and heart he brings to every stage—whether it’s school, service, or song. 💛💚
