Did you know that students who miss 9 or fewer days in a 180-day school year are significantly more likely to stay on track academically and graduate on time?
📉 Missing just 2 days a month—even if excused—can lead to learning gaps, lower grades, and decreased engagement.
✅ Helpful tips for families to support strong attendance:
• Set a consistent bedtime and morning routine to make mornings smoother.
• Schedule appointments outside of school hours whenever possible.
• Keep communication open with teachers and the school if your child is struggling.
• Make school a priority—help your child understand that showing up matters.
• Plan vacations or trips during school breaks to avoid missed days.
Let’s work together to build strong attendance habits and support every child’s path to success—because every day counts!

Doddridge County Middle School and Doddridge County High School are joining forces to kick off Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with a heartfelt initiative leading up to the first home high school football game against Ritchie County on Friday, September 5th, with the theme “GOLD RUSH to CRUSH Childhood Cancer” set by High School Coach Bobby Burnside. DCMS students will be provided with the opportunity to partake in the rivalry by attending an after-school GLOW social with a “Car crushing event” before heading by bus to the DCHS football game, where they’ll cheer from their very own Middle School Student Section.
Permission forms are required ONLY if students are transported from the social to the game via school bus. Parents must provide pickup after the game at the football field.

This week, our Board of Education members and Superintendent Dr. Adam Cheeseman were proud to attend the 2025 4-H & FFA Livestock Sale at Doddridge County Park. 💛💚
Events like this are more than just a sale; they are an investment in our students, families, and community. Through their hard work and dedication, our FFA members and 4-H participants gain lifelong skills in leadership, responsibility, and teamwork that reach far beyond the show ring. 🐄🐖🐐
We are truly grateful for the strong partnerships that make opportunities like this possible. The WVU Extension Office and Doddridge County Park continue to be vital supporters of youth development in our county, and we value the role they play in helping our students grow and succeed. 🌱
Board President Chad Evans shared, “Supporting events like the livestock sale is one of the many ways we can show our students that their hard work matters. This program strengthens not only agricultural education but also the foundation of our entire community.”
👏 Thank you to our board members for showing up to support our students and to everyone who makes this event a success year after year!

Today, the Doddridge County Schools Holistic Child Department hosted another impactful professional development session—this time at Doddridge County High School!
The session, titled “Stress Management and Self-Care,” was led by Taylor Daugherty, a Doddridge County graduate who now works with Aetna. We’re proud to see one of our own giving back to the community and are grateful for the valuable insights and strategies Ms. Daugherty shared.
We also welcomed David Lee from ParentGuidance.org, who wrapped up the session by introducing their Parent Coaching tool. This free and confidential service offers one-on-one support with a cognitive coach to help parents, guardians, and staff manage stress, implement healthy interventions, and prioritize self-care.
