📢 Parent Update: Digital Safety Instruction (Grades 3–12)

The State of West Virginia has implemented Senate Bill 466, which requires all public schools to provide annual digital safety instruction for students in grades 3–12.

As part of this statewide requirement, Doddridge County Schools is preparing to launch this training near the end of April, while providing time for families to review the materials in advance. This approach is intended to give parents and guardians the opportunity to explore the content, ask questions, and make informed decisions for their child.

💻 What this means for families:
• Digital safety instruction is required by state law for all students in grades 3–12
• The State of West Virginia has identified CyberSWAT (Safety While Accessing Technology) as the platform to meet this requirement
• Families are encouraged to review the materials by clicking the link below and exploring the available parent resources

Parents who wish to do so may opt their child out of the CyberSWAT platform by completing and submitting the form by April 22nd. Students who opt out will complete an alternative digital safety lesson through Learning.com to meet state requirements.

The intent of this training is to equip students with the skills needed to safely and responsibly navigate today’s digital world.

Our goal is to partner with families, provide clear information, and respect parent choice while meeting state requirements.

If you have questions or would like additional information, please contact the Central Office at 304-873-2300.

Students worked with Mrs. Cumberledge using BookCreator to design and publish their own original fables in a comic strip format. Throughout the project, students were highly engaged in every part of the writing process—planning, drafting, and revising their stories. They also demonstrated growing confidence with technology as they saved their work, inserted and manipulated images, and typed their text to bring their narratives to life.

Students at Doddridge Elementary, with the help of Mrs. Cumberledge, have been blending their ELA skills with technology by using Canva to create impressive projects. Fourth-grade students used figurative language to design and describe an original superhero, and they will later use this character to produce an iMovie trailer. Third-grade students applied their knowledge of classic fairy tales and author perspectives to put creative twists on traditional stories, ultimately transforming them into engaging newspaper articles.

❄️👑 A Magical Attendance Surprise at Doddridge County Elementary! 👑❄️

After a couple of cold and snowy days with school canceled due to weather, Elsa visited Doddridge County Elementary School on December 17, 2025, as a special attendance incentive. Students who attended school that day were excited to be greeted by Elsa as they walked into the building.

Even though we were coming off several snow days and heading into a long break, being present at school remains important. Elsa helped remind our students to be ready to learn while also getting excited for the upcoming break!

Thank you to our Holistic Child Department, Communities In Schools staff, and Elsa for making this fun and memorable experience possible! ❄️✨
