Students at DCES recently voted to give our Little Dog mascot a name and the winning name was...... Bullseye!!! 3rd grader Sierra Tallman was recognized and won a prize basket for nominating the winning name. Students were thrilled to see the high school mascot and Doddridge County Schools therapy dog, Chloe, at the assembly. Our assembly also recognized youth league cheerleaders and football players! Doddridge County Schools motto is "United to Make a Difference" and when it matters most, Doddridge Countians show up to make a difference in not only the lives of their own, but those who need it the most. Doddridge County Elementary School would like to bring hope to those who desperately need our help. DCES will be hosting a donation drive for items in the flyer below. Items collected will be hand delivered next week. We know the timeline is short, but when it matters most, we know we can count on our community for help. We are asking that if you have the means to assist, please help us unite to make a difference to our friends and neighbors to our South. Please send in any items you can donate by 8am Tuesday, October 8th. The classroom with the most items donated will win a classroom pizza party! Take a minute to share this post with family and friends to help spread the word of our donation collection. We hope to reach our broad community of parents/guardians and partners in education.

First grade students have been learning about Johnny Appleseed! Students created Johnny Appleseed sentences, learned the parts an apple, and the life cycle of an apple tree. Today students made applesauce! Students learned how to use an apple peeler and safe knife cutting skills. After smelling the apples cook all day, students were finally able to smash and eat the applesauce.

Second grade students at DCES have been learning about animal habitats recently and were to make dioramas that represented animals they selected. We must say that our second grade students are skilled in not only knowledge but their creativity!

September 19 has been declared West Virginia School Service Personnel Day by Governor Justice. I also wish to express my gratitude for all the hard work and dedication our service personnel bring to Doddridge County Schools. Their efforts make a world of difference in creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for students and staff alike. Their commitment to their work and compassion for our students, whether in the cafeteria, maintaining our facilities, providing support in the classroom, making sure our buses are safe, transporting our students or managing administrative tasks, does not go unnoticed. They play a vital role in shaping the educational experience and ensuring that everything runs smoothly. So thank you to our School Service Personnel! Superintendent Scott Cochran.

Opps. We made a mistake, and that's okay! We forgot that picture day was on the Wednesday of Spirit Week and Wacky Wednesday might not have been the best idea. We will now be having "Dress Your Best" day instead!! Please note this change. If your student brought home a small flyer yesterday, just disregard it.
